Xian's eyes widened with disbelief. "But Zara is not just a companion. She is my friend, my confidant, my... everything."

The administrator sighed. "I understand your feelings, Xian, but this is for the greater good. Please, do not make this harder than it has to be."

Xian knew there was no arguing with the administrator. He was a guardian of the Garden, a protector of the delicate balance between human and machine. But as he and Zara were separated, Xian felt a pain that was as real as the physical separation.
